best cheap a64 cpu cooler for mild overclocking?

I'm thinking of saving a few bob and getting an oem venice 3000 instead of the retail - lowestonweb do it for £82.29 delivered. versus most prices for the a64 3000 retail that saves me £25. What would be the best cheap heatsink and fan to go with this processor if i want to overclock it to around 2ghz - 2.2ghz? It must be quiet as well - below 28db! Anyone?

What the stock speed of that CPU, i forget? TBH, you can get 200-300mhz extra with the reference cooler (at least i did with my 3700SD).

so I've heard - I'd gladly buy the reference cooler if i could get it cheaper separately - but I dont know anywhere that sells them. the stock speed of the 939 3000 is 1.8ghz btw

thats far too noisy - 'Sound: 24.5 - 40.0 dB(A)' - If im overclocking I wouldn't run the fan speed on low. the 34db of my 1700xp cooler noisy enough.

My Venice run up to 2.78Ghz using stock fan As long as you don't push the voltage up (too much) the stock hsf is absolutely enough.

cj2mrhat, i was going to get my cpu from lowestonweb as well, but its a E3 core not the new E6 revision. I've found the E6 revision 3000+ venice OEM at novatech for £82.22 with postage, its a few pence cheaper than lowestonweb. Its got a(nother) revised memory controller and some other minor tweaks. There is a thread over at xtremesystems, here.

cheers pengellyd - If I don't win a brand new retail venice im bidding for on ebay I'll go the novatech route. I read a review of the arctic cooling freezer 64 earlier - looks like a a decent and more importantly, quiet heatsink.

the arctic cooling freezer 64 is ace. Am using one right now to get a nice o/c to 2.35Ghz on my o/g s754 clawhammer 3200+. Idles between 28 and 33 c depending on ambient.
