    New system suggestions

Well it's finally reached that time again, my Graphics card is starting to play up (screen blackouts occasionally and artifacts in games), my system boot time is measured in weeks and my processor is ready for the nursing home. Time to retire the old system and herald a new beast into my world. Question is what to buy?

I would really like to go SFF so I was looking to base a new system on an SN25P which looks like the dog's danglies of AMD SFF (Always gone AMD for the last few years and don't see a reason to change now).

    http://global.shuttle.com/Product/Barebone/SN25P.asp

Question then is what to put with it.

    Main uses will be
    80% Gaming
    10% Surfing
10% Genreal printing (Photo's, letters, and the odd bit of work stuff).

    Overall budget around 1K

What CPU, GPU, how much RAM ?

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

1k for the Shuttle plus CPU, RAM and GPU, or 1k for everything?

    1K for everything if possible

Base unit only though no TFT required.

CPU: Grab yourself a Venic 3000+ or 3200+, will easiyl clock to 3500+ (even in a shuttle, mine does)

Mobo/psu/case: oh look all in your shuttle, what a money saver, hurrah!

Graphics: 6800GT looks fine right now.

BTW, all these things are on this week only at overclockers.co.uk

Not normally a fan of OCUK. Was hoping to get more into the 7800 range on the GPU although I'm a little lost on what's agood buy there at the moment?

If you want a 7800 then go for a 7800GT IMO. Any CPU from 3000+ should be ok, obviously if you have spare cash you might want to try and get something a bit faster. A gig of decent quality RAM should be ok.

You could probably get the Shuttle, a 7800GT, a 3200+, and a gig of RAM and just about have enough cash for the other bits.

Ok, having looked around I'm think of this combination :-

    AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA3700BNBOX) (CP-121-AM) £162.95 + VAT

    Shuttle XPC SN25P Aluminium Barebones System - AMD 64 (Socket 939) (FS-045-SH)
    £239.50 + VAT

    XFX GeForce 7800GT Extreme Edition 256MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (PVT70G-UDF7) (GX-053-XF)
    £249.95 + VAT

    Samsung SpinPoint P SP2504C 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-018-SA)
    £74.95 + VAT

    Corsair 2GB DDR Value Select PC3200 CAS3.0 Kit (2x1GB) (VS2GBKIT400C3) (MY-080-CS) £139.95 + VAT

    NEC ND3540 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM (CD-019-NE)
    £25.00 + VAT

    Total with VAT of £1048

Any components there that seem wrong or any suggestions. I've heard people recommend the SpinPoint drives but, forgive the stupid question, does SATA-II work with this shuttle ?

Do you need an operating system? Don't forget to add that to the price.

Looks goods. 1gb or 2gb ram is your choice, if you've got the cash to spare it won't hurt but if its touch and go its not really that important right now. If you need to upgrade later it the price will have gone down so will save you a few pennies.
