    mobile cpu + hsf probs

hi all, got a socket 754 mobile athlon (no, not 64 & doesn't say sempron either!) an msi k8t neo mobo & an arctic cooler 64 tc hsf. as suggested by the lovely mr rave i did a dummy run & the cpu + hsf dont quite make contact i've heard saw off the 4 pegs (most of) to counter the lack of heat spreader but am worried that if i go too far the cpu will be damaged by excessive pressure from hsf. any ideas? oh, & buy the way, unless u like bending capacitors the hsf doesn't quite fit.

With a64 style chips, they have a metal shroud over the core protecting it, so damaging the chip shouldn't be so much of an issue as it was with an Athlon. Taking the support pegs off won't increase the pressure on the chip as that's down to spring tension.
As for bending capacitors, most have done it from time to time provided there's nothing excessive you should be ok.

I thought the mobile cpus didn't have the heatspreaders. I think that is what he is referring to.

as stated, no "metal shroud" i.e. no heat spreader, it looks like an xp chip. how/where would i buy a shim? u say the tension in the springs would stop it damaging the cpu? makes sense, hope u r right.
