    AMD A64 Help

I am looking to buy into the AMD A64 PC upgrade route and i need some advice.

I don't have the money to get an X2 CPU so which CPU should i get? Should i go for a Venice or a San diego or get a 2nd hand Winchester? Should i get a PCI-Express motherboard? I am not interested in SLi.

I do play some games, now and then. Big CPU numbers are not that important. I just want a decent spec CPU.

Budget wise i don't have a lot to play with so a low price solution would be best. Any ideas would be great.

If you're on a budget and want new go for a venice as they're well priced and overclock well enough. Larger cache's don't make much of a difference in-game so a san diego (at double the cost) isn't such a good buy. Yes go with a PCI express motherboard - it's a better investment in the long term and you'll get newer tech with it.

Can someone recommend him a good non-sli motherboard?

As for budget, i need to know the best CPU at the lower end of the A64 stup. Would a Venice 3000 be ok? Should i get a winnchester? I am not too sure about budget. Just needs to be cheap!! But good setup.

get a venice.. its much more overclockable (even if u dont do overclocking, having the potential around still helps). The core runs much cooler too.

3000+ would be the choice if you're ULTRA tight on budget.. or else I would always recommend a 3200+, shell in an extra 20 quid and u get urself an OEM 3500+...

PCI-E would be where u want to go.. unless you currently have a powerful AGP card you want to keep, say a 6800Ultra or X850XTPE...
