Post New system - please comment on it

    Hi,

First of all a big "newbie" hi to everyone! I been circleing around the Hexus forum for ages, but never really signed up... so thought it might do it now and get a bit "involved" instead.

As i'm planning to build a new system soon, I was thinking of posting it in here to see what people think. And perhaps come with suggestions or comments on it? That would be great!

    The system is:

    Case: Coolermaster Wavemaster - Silver
CPU: AMD Athlon A64 3500+ Venice processor.
    Graphics: XFX 256MB 7800GT (450/1050)
    DVDWriter: NEC 3540 - Silver
    Memory: Corsair PC4400
    Mobo: MSI K8N SLI Platinum
    PSU: Tagan 580W 2Force
    Mousepad: Steelpad 4D

I havent decided on harddrive yet, but been looking at Seagate 160GB SATA is this any good? Also been looking into the SATAII ones, as they seem to be very similar in price to the SATA and they are quicker (as far as i know).

Also when it comes to sound, I decided to stick with the Mobo sound and get me some Sennheiser HD497. I've always been a fan of sennheiser, and it seems that HD497 get quite good reviews.

Please give me some feedback on this system, and perhaps even additional hardware I would need!

    /madd_garde

    Hi Madd

I can hear screams of "San Diego", "3700+" and "1MB Cache" already

All the rest of the components will no doubt be 'umm'd and 'aah'd over in time

    Good luck with the PC

    Thanks mate

Yea I have looked at the "San Diego" but wasnt sure if its that much better.

What is the difference between these 2? (In performance vs. value). Would I get alot more for my money if i picked the 3700+?

San Diego cores essentially have double the on board cache memory of their Venice counterparts.

    San Diego - 1mb Cache
    Venice - 512kb Cache

Plenty of Benchmarks around the net for your viewing pleasure

Well I have to say that system looks pretty nice.

Good solid components, good PSU. For the mobo I'd get a DFI Ultra-D but then thats just me

    Good luck

Well for now I will leave it, just want to make sure it runs stabile. But im defo gonna overclock in the future i think, thats why I havent thought of buying a new HSF for the CPU, but wait with that for laters.

Yea I heard about this DFI mobo, it seems to come up again and again

Would you know any good reviews about the DFI mobo?

its just that if you are looking to overclock it...x10 multiplier is enough as most amd rev E speed ceiling is 2.7/2.8 Ghz...so the saving from 3500+ to OEM 3200+ can be made to invest more in memory (although your current memory option is rock solid ) or perhaps better HSF..just a thought tho...anyway, nice solid system..
