Exclamation New system setup. Need help!!

    Hi.

I'm building a new system for a friend and I've encountered a problem with startup.

The system holds at the point just before it searches the Hard Drive and CD drives for boot software (the bit where it says "verifying DMI data" or something). I've tried connecting just the HDD and just the CD drive and nothing changes. The BIOS detects everything with no problems and there are no error messages.

It sounds like a simple problem, and I'm very frustrated at not being able to figure it out, as I've been building PCs for years, and I've never had a problem like this (and I've had a few! ). Any thoughts?

    The hardware:
    MSI K8N Neo-F S939 board
    AMD A64 3000+
    Corsair DDR400 1024MB
    Seagate SATA HDD 200gb
Sony DVD+-RW DL (can't remember exact model no)
    Gigabyte GF6600 PCI-E card

    Thanks.

    I'm bumping this.

Can no-one suggest anything that could cause the computer to freeze at that point?

I have seen the problem occur on a DFI nF3 250 motherboards. Only solution I found was to keep rebooting. I have not tried the more recent bios upgrades to see if they've fixed it. Good luck.

It's a long shot but it may be a problem wit the HDD, the system may be trying to boot from the HDD and failing but not showing it. Maybe try changing the BIOS to boot ONLY from CD and give it a go ?

Unplugged the HDD completly, and still got nowhere.

Sounds like some kind of hardware problem then :S .

I'll go on the Scan help forum to see what they say (all the hardware was from them!).

If anyone has any ideas in the meantime, please tell me.

    Thanks again.

I think its a memory problem. Enter the BIOS and check the timings are within spec.

It does indeed sound like a memory problem,.

Try upping the voltage, checking the memory timings and then running memtest86+ to see whats up
    Check my project <<| Black3D |>>
