    CPU Limited

This is just a little reminder for you guys.

I keep on seeing threads in which people are recomending a 7800gtx or an x850xt pe etc when the cpu is an A64 3000+.

The graphics card would be very limited by this and with the price of them, it is not worth the money.

had to get this out, thanks

While your point is a very valid one, what about people that have a 3000+, but have overclocked them?

They will be cpu limited in SLI though, even with an FX57

yerp....but if you bring out that point..y bother to have sli then...I do think the current gen cpu cannot keep up with 7800GTX SLI...we have to wait for socket M2 then...

would a pair of 7800GTX be CPU limited at 1920x1200 with full AA & AF? I'm not sure they would be, or am I underestimating this card?

    Nope.

I was talking about standard resolutions up to 1600x1200 with 4xAA 16xAF

The limitations vary from game to game. Certainly any SLI option (maybe crossfire when it arrives too) is sort of stupid as that really is CPU intensive. A game such as doom 3 will not be heavily limited by a 3000+ as Half Life 2.

The higher the resolution and quality settings are the less limitation you see as the gpu comes in to it's own.

SLI doesn't use significant CPU in and of itself.

Bad wording, CPU intensive wasn't really what I meant, lack of sleep and all. Just pointing out that SLI increases the CPU limitation.

in 6 months with newer games a 7800gt with a 3000+ they may not be cpu limited anymore as games tax the graphics cards more

Ah right, you're basically saying with a faster gfx setup you're more likely to hit the cpu limit than gpu, yeah that makes sense.

Yorkie: don;t count on it, they'll probably assume we have X2 chips by then.
