    Screen gone all erm.. "green".

    Hello there,

Haven't been here for a while - but I knew this was definitely the best place to come if I wanted help with anything like this!

I turned on the monitor this morning after a weeks holiday to find it had "gone green", like it can't display white properly so it looks like someones put some sort of see through green paper over it. I'm not sure if thats a good way to describe this but I'm sure ive heard of this problem before.

I think one of the tubes or valves has gone - afterall the monitor is coming up to 5 years old and its had its fair share of uses.

The monitor is a "Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 920", 19" and looks like this.

So is there anything I can do about this problem etc? Thanks alot in advance!

Edit - Forgot to mention the screens running 100hertz refresh rate, at 1152x864 at "highest 32 bit" colour.

take monitor, put in car, drive to municipal dump, dispose of monitor.... Absolutely not worth paying anyone to fix it, you can buy a new one for less than it'll cost to fix - suspect the red gun has died.

Try a reset using the OSD & controls on the front of the monitor.
Try a different screen resolution & colour depth
Check connections are tight inc Power cable
If it's not been used for a while then leave it on for a while to allow it to warm up.
Check you haven't got anything that might interfere close by (Hi-Fi Speakers, TV, Microwave etc.
If all that fails give it a good thump on the top on the monitor (believe me - this worked for me once!)

If all of that fails it's probably time to get a new one! TFT I assume would be your choice??? Just check it's not the graphics card in your computer by trying another monitor or a different graphics card.

Thanks for the replys all - but I just checked the back of the pc and the monitor plug for some bizzare reason wasn't plugged in properly. I plugged it in, moved the box to the left a bit, booted up - all working like normal. Moved box an inch back to its usual spot, green. Inch to the left again, all working.

Basically if I move the tower a inch back to where it was the screens all buggered but if I leave it where it is, its fine. Faulty connection? Its working fine right now anyway, apart from the towers not lined up!

Have you checked the graphics card is correctly inserted?
    What graphics card is it?

Yeah, as you found out it was the VGA cable. I'm surprised no-one suggested de-gaussing though (maybe they've forgotten the joy of CRT ). While not quite matching your symptoms, if you get strange colouring (especially an uneven colouring spreading out from the side of a display) it can often be cured by going through the OSD and clicking on de-gauss (or however it's spelled). There will be a loud buzz and your display will wobble, but it can sort out that problem (which you didn't have )
