ABIT AV8 3rd eye vs DFI LanParty nForce3

Hey guys

Im currently running an ABIT AV8 3rd eye motherboard and was wondering if there is much point in me swapping it for a DFI nForce3 motherboard and will I see much performance difference?

Basically the reason is because I "dislike" this via chipset on the Abit board and im sure its holding me back slightly gaming wise... But I also hear that the DFI board is a poor overclocker?

Anyone with experience of both? Would I be best getting an MSI Nforce3 board?

The DFI is great overclocker, the real problem is finding one that works properly

What makes you think the Via chipset is holding you back?

The main variable in motherboard performace (the memory controller) was moved onto the chip in the Athlon64.....from what I've seem there isn't much of a difference at all between the various chipsets in terms of performance.

The AV8 will only hold you back when you're ULTRA overclocking, mine tops around 290MHz HTT while MSI Neo2 Plat tops around 320MHz... but at stock speeds the AV8 is even faster than a MSI Neo2 Plat. No doubt about that..

I cant go any higher than 256HTT without instabilities, but its prolly my memory thats doing it.. I just hear than the nForce 3 is better for gaming and hence wanted to do a swap. I think if anything id rather go PCI-E if i was to upgrade but cheers for the advice

I'd stick with it and save to upgrade to PCI-E. THEN get a DFI SLi-D or DFI Ultra-D
