SN41G2 v3 resetting
i have a shuttle SN41G2 v3 with a duron 1400mhz, 512mb, 200gb seagate hard disk and a pioneer DVD-RW
its running windows XP with all current updates.
my problem is that for no reason it seems to re-start itself randomly.
i cant see any reason why, its been re-formatted and re-installed with all the latest nvidia driver, and as far as i can remember, its running the most up to date BIOS revision.
yet it still re-sets, sometimes it wont do it for a couple of days, then it will do it 3 times in an evening.
its not done anything more strenious then some p2p work and acting as a divx box untill recently when we put seti on it (although this dosent seem to have changed anything)
is this a known problems with some shuttles (a friend reports a similar problem) or do i need certain driver revisions on etc?
many thanks for your help

I think i have the same problem but no answers - it happens maybe once a week for me :(

i have changed the meory, ran memtest86 over mine for 24 hours with no problems
anyone got any ideas?

Well, I have had this problem and I have found that it is usually down to the fan getting clogged with dust and not shifting enough air, obviously the CPU overheats and the thing either resets or freezes (think it depends how you set it up in the BIOS and also in the advanced error reporting bit on windows).
So my first reccomendation would be to get the heatsink off clean the fan and then put it all back together.
Failing that "right click my computer > properties > advanced > start up and recovery settings > untick automaticaly restart"
You should now get a BSOD error message when it hangs and that will point you in the direction of the problem.

its definatly not getting too hot, cant remember figures off he top of my head, but its running under 50degrees.
any other ideas of am i gonna have to send it back?

What memory are you using? Have you tried it without the graphics card just using the onboard? If your using two sticks of mem try one on its own in each slot for both of them. Is the Hard Drive Sata or Ata?
-
mines watercooled and it still does it occasionally, it's not heat :)
-
it running 2 x 256mb sticks of ram
200gb ide hard disk
pioneer dvr-109
on board graphics
pci network card (was trying to fix something else)
i have run memtest86 on it, and it ran for 24 hours with no problems.
as far as i am aware the machine is runing the most up to date BIOS.
current temp is 48 according to the cpu diode read through mbm5
voltages are
core : 1.5v
3.3v : 3.36
5v : 5.10
12v : 12.27
the machines runs seti all the time, and emule most of the time, apart from that its only use is to play whatever we download.
resets are random, they can be in the middlew of the day when we are at work, they could be in the middle of us watching a video. also the resets occour at random times, it might be ok for a couple of days, then reset 2 or 3 times in a couple of hours.
i have done a total re-install of windows xp with all updates and latest drivers of the nvidia web site.
any clues would be appreciatged, otherwise i think i am gonna have to talk to ocuk and see if they can sort it
cheers

What bios revision are you using?
Have you thought about going back to the one before that?
-
my assumption was that the more recent would be the most stable :(
i'll check when i get home tonite.
-
Im afraid thats not always the case with Shuttle :(
Il find out what revision ive got on mine as thats stable. Run 24/7 no problems.

right,
according to the bios, its running
05/17/2005 -- 6a61d00tc-00
looking at the shuttle web site ( http://global.shuttle.com/Download/D...em=SN41G2%20V3 )there is a BIOS dated 23/5/2005. but when you look at the release details, it says the 17th.
why do i get the feeling they hjave released a dodgy BIOS (again) and then put a fix out a couple of days later??
think this happened with my mates, he updated the BIOS, then it wouldnt hold any settings, we checked the shuttle website to find there was another BIOS up dated a couple of days after.
think i am gonna download this BIOS later and see how that goes.
i'll let you know
