Can anyone name either Intel/Amd motherboards that have a 8x PCI Express slot & also 64bit PC slots?
Or just the 8x Slot will do?
Thanks

Why would you need a 8x PCI-E slot, won't a 16x slot do? With SLI mobos, if you have 2 gfx cards fitted in SLI mode, both 16x PCI-E slots become 8x slots.
Because of an additional PCI express SCSI raid card that supports an 8x slot :D
If it will work in a 16x at 8x then fine, but I didnt want it to effect the graphics card bandwidth...
Foxconn got Dual 16x (real 2x16) board, supermicro got H8DCE, Iwill got DK8ES(EW?), Tyan got S2895. There are quite a lot of choices, but those I listed are all opteron solutions.
Why do you need ultra-fast gpu (which you believe to be using >8x bandwidth) on a presumably fileserver/db server?
Well its going to be in my main server & hosting several vmware machines, but its either that or an 8 port sata raid card, which is pci-x 133mhz spec card, a few hdds in a stacker...
Now I even question why you'll even need a PCIe card :PQuote:

May be an Areca ARC-1220 will be suitable for your purpose?
#1 8x slot = SCSI RAID
#2 8x slot = SATA RAID
#3,4 1x slot = extra GbE NIC
#5 = PCI VGA card
Could use onboard RAID1 for system disks?
£520 for the Areca :O
I can get a Broadcom BC4852 8 port SATA RAID card, Dell PERC 4e/DC PCI Express SCSI RAID Controller or a LSI Logic MegaRAID SCSI 320-2E - PCI-X 8 for £200 each
Even an OEM Adaptec 39320-R Ultra 320 SCSI RAID 0/1 Card is £65
but as you have mentioned, motherboard choice is the hard part, Opteron boards are around £300 for decent ones, where as Xeons ones are from £100-£200, can get a pair of Xeons for £150...
Decisions....
