    Intel CPU

    Hi,
    I have got 2 new computers one is 541 3.2ghz intel, 512mb, 160gb and the other is 630 3.0 ghz intel, 1024mb, 250gb .
The 3.0ghz computer seems to hang on some programs, I thought the 3.0ghx would be same or slightly faster as it had 2mb of cache than the 3.2ghz?

Also it has only been one day with the new computers when i turned off the 3.0ghz computer in the night, there was a burning smell. Is this meant to happen with new computers? I turned it on this morning can't smell the burning smell now, do you thing something is wrong with the computer?

    Thanks for any advice

    shah

No a burning smell isn't good (though on some PSUs it's normal for a smell of warm, almost burning plastic for the first few days). Is any part of the case especially warm or hot to the touch? Also will you invalidate your warranty by taking the cover off and having a look to see if anything is obviously wrong?

hang? Slow down for a split second, or actually crash and need rebooting?

Reason I ask is that 1024 mb of ram makes for a much faster PC, (than 512mb) in a lot of applications, the sheer speed of the CPU is not relevent when they're so closely matched in speed terms. The doubling of ram however makes a mammoth difference

    Hi,
Yeah that is what I thought, so I was suprised when the computer with 1gb ram seemed slower and Slow down for a split second. You think something wrong with the computer?
    Thanks
