    RAM Upgrade

Currently got 1gb Geil 3200 value RAM in my system, but want to upgrade it to 2gb. Am I better off getting two 1gb sticks? What would people recommend(I'm not rich!!)

You can get 2x1Gb sticks of Geil Value at overclockers for £125 at the moment

Agreed with that. Then sell your current RAM

And also, would I see a significant performance increase going from 1>2 gig?

    (Questions, questions!)

Not sure you'd get much of a performace gain, but it depends on what your doing.

You'd see better "performace" results by getting 1GB RAM with tighter timings. (2-2-2-5 etc) and you'd pay about the same as 2GB of "Value" RAM

Sorry to butt in on the conversation lol

    I have the following http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...stix_Kits.html (its the top 2 x 512mb PC4000 Dual channel kit @ £140ish).

I bought this from a friend for £80 the other day and was just curious as to the timings of this Ram if anybody who knows would be so kind as to let me know.

    Many Thanks

Thanks very much for the swift reply. Given the above timings and my current setup, would it be best to upgrade my ram with a further 2 x 512mb Ballistix sticks or sell my current ones and go for something with tighter timings (poss 2 x 1GB sticks)???

Definately looking to upgrade my ram in the next few days.

Again sorry to hijack the thread

I'm going to get 2 x 1gb sticks (and I have OCZ Plat Rev 2 TCCD which has gone all the way up to 300MHz at 2.5-4-3-6 ).

The drop in performance shows it in 4 x 512mb config

    I would highly recommend 2 X 1GB sticks

At the moment Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC4000 2 X 1GB are very nice ram modules, high overclock and excellent timings, however it is £260. They look awesome, with the activity LED's and they glow blue. hmmmmm

    LINK HERE

Depends if you want to spend that much though, Ill be whacking these babies in when I upgrade later in the next few months.

If you were happy with the Geil 1GB, you could always get the Geil 2GB, excellent value.

**I use to have some Geil PC3200 1GB and I got it £55 when I sold it**

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Although the crucial stuff looks pretty amazing, it's a bit out of my price range at the moment!

Yeah I have to stretch to get that (but I will )

Corsair is good stuff, and GEIL do the same RAM as yours in 2 x 1gb

Might save a bit of cash first and then go for the better timings option. Don't know much about RAM timings. Anyone care to explain? What reasonably priced RAM would people recommend with the improved timings?
