    Same as mine

I have a fan on both sides in a push/pull ( Blow/Suck ?) configuration which allows me to run both fans at around 2000 rpm and still keep the temps nice and low.

True but the IHS on almost all of the X2's is not making proper contact with both of the cores. Thus the hardcore overclockers are taking them off

Yeah...the hardcore overclockers are probably more confident than your average internet joe.

Besides my temps are fine @ 2.7 so i dont see the need to take the risk and at the same time i think it's important that 'non hardcore' overclockers understand the implications and risk involved in removing the IHS

They remove it so that their HSF makes direct contact with the core/s.

So they take something off of the chip??? I just assumed that IHS meant "included heat sink", probably wrong lol

Sorry to ask so many questions, just slightly curious as to what they do to get the speed up to 2.8ghz, not that I am ever likely to push mine that far, just nice to know (you never know when your gonna get that urge)

Thanks for the patience so far

IHS = integrated heat spreader. The silver coloured cover over the cores with the printing on it

Thought it might have meant that shell, that would be way outta my league in terms of modding / overclocking lol

    Cheers for the explanation though

This is gonna sound really sad (especially as I am only 23) but I remember the old says of the Pentium II etc when the chips were huge.

Been outta PC's for a little while but recently made a comeback and I just can't believe how small the chips are these days. Especially in that picture with the ISH off.

I think i'll keep my IHS on unless temps hold back my o'clock. What sort of temps are people seeing at 2.7 plus? And are you using water or air?

    EVO 33 with dual fans .... 33 - 35 idle and 41 - 48 load @ 2.7 with 1.5 Volts ( IHS is on).

    I get around 41 -43 playing games and 48 running 2 instances of prime95.
