    X2 3800 Overclock

After receiving my X2 3800 and running it in for a few days, I tried setting it to 10 x 220....has been running for a couple of days doing very intensive stuff (3DMark, WoW, BF2) without a single hickup....still using stock retail cooling.

    Glad I didn't spend the extra £100 on the X2 4200+ now

Yes they are excellent cores and should happily go well beyond 2.2

Well, now that I am happy with 2200, I guess 2400 is the next target

Thanks for the heads-up about how far they can be pushed.....I had almost given up on overclocking recently, my old 3000+ and 3500+ really didn't take too well to any overclocking

You can get 2400 without overclocking the ram/HT quite easily so it's quite a nice sweet spot. Set clock to 240, mem divider to 333mhz and HT multiplier at 4. HT works out at 960mhz (nicely below the 1000mhz threshold), ram at 400mhz and processor at 2400mhz.

I have an X2 3800 running quite nicely at 2200MHZ. But am having problems with getting it to 2400MHZ. Do I need to tweak the voltage?

Also, when running at 2200MHZ, its temp appears to be between 45-50 is that normal. I have a Pure Copper Thermaltake K8 Silent Boost HSF with Coolermaster Shinetsu Paste.

The Case it is in is a LianLi PC-7, with only a 80MM fan on the back and there is a 6800GT in there as well. Would I benefit from a different case??

From memory i've put mine up to 1.3375v (I THINK!) so yes i did raise it slighty (sorry for not mentioning it!). Heat sounds about right on air and with poor case airflow. You could buy some hole cutters and add a blowhole and a front intake to it but i'd say your temps aren't all that bad. If you're pushing 60 then worry.

Saw that post yesterday and set mine exactly the same (except I kept RAM on AUTO). CPU Voltage to 1.3375v as mentioned.

2400MHz and gave it a thrashing with BF2 for 4 hours solid - no hickups at all

Shocked at that for a retail heatsink/fan as well

What's your RAM running at out of interest?

I have to say that 2.4 seems more than enough for gaming right now

Anyone know the best settings to overclock a 4400+ X2???

Just fitted a few weeks ago, now looking to overclock it. Heard much like the 3800+ it will happily go from 2.2 to 2.4/2.6, is this true????

    Many Thanks

Your best bet is to experiment as each chip can vary.

To give you an idea though my X2 3800 happily runs @ 2.7 Ghz.

    http://www.zen80222.zen.co.uk/X2OC.JPG

And another pic @ a slightly lower clock making an X2 4800 look decidedly slow

    http://www.zen80222.zen.co.uk/3800x2_OC.JPG

It will probably go higher but i want to 'run it in' for a while before i go mad with it

Also my chip is in fact a Toledo core and not a Manchester as reported by cpu-z.

    Nice overclock!

Looks like those Toledo chips are quite succesful at achieving high clocks. Quite tempted to buy one.

My X2 4400+ gets me up to 2.8GHz with not much hassle. Bets to take the IHS off of the chip tho
