what are you planning to do with it? If your running stock its not going to make a heap of difference, but if your planning to overclock then it becomes more important.

Technically thats not really true, as the Geil is PC4000 compared with the corsair PC3200, though how they will respond when you overclock them is mainly down to the modules themselves. OcUK have some good dual channel kits for reasonable prices, which might be worth a look.

The GEIL is good stuff. I'd get that over Corsair

As far as I can tell from this list: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=50010

The Geil stuff is TCCD so should get you a higher htt than the corsair stuff. If the corsair is a new revision it will be bh5 so will need a bit more voltage to get going.

Tbh if its a money orientated decision don't bother with more expensive ram as the performance increases are pretty minimal with lower latency ram (maybe 3-4%) and say up to 10% overclocked. If you just increase the htt on an athlon 64 and use a ram divider to keep the ram running at stock speed you will get a healthy overclock from that. Running your ram 1:1 isn't really necessary on athlon 64s unless you bench or want every last bit of performance.

    I see your point but

a: If you have the money spare its well worth the extra performance.

B: Overclocking 1:1 is not only pretty 1337, but also performance of the system scales with that. Super PI 1m (what I use to check the OC is worth it) gives me at least an extra second 1:1. And in 30secs, thats pretty good

Don't worry, i'm all for 1:1 ocing, I'm even trying to get a good 1:1 overclock out of this 3500+ newcastle I've got until I get your old 3200+...

If you have the time and the cash to fiddle and tweak till you get the oc that you want then by all means but in many cases its much better saving the cash and putting it towards a faster cpu or graphics card as these wild yield much better performance and value for money.

Actually from that link it appears that the Ultra Platinum PC4000 is not TCCD, but Hynix D43 chips. They're not bad chips, but won't overclock as well as TCCD.

But I agree with your point that there's no point buying expensive RAM. The real-world performance difference is pretty small. And I wouldn't count Super PI as real-world

Also there's no such thing as a 1:1 performance boost due to the way the Athlon64 doesn't have a FSB, but rather an internal-clock HTT.
