First thing is to address what parts are the issue with noise these will be:
Main 80mm fan
PSU Fan
Graphics card fan
Hard Disc
The first one is easy to replace just whip out the old one and get a nice low noise papst NGLM fan in there quickly.
The graphics card fan is an issue , I prefer to 7 volt mod them as its the simplest option , there are the zalman replacement heatsinks but these won't fit in the shuttle without making a whole in the side panel which isnt good really.
The hard disc may seem drastic but this makes a lot of noise and if you carefully choose a hard disc this can be avoided . The best I've found is the Seagate baracuda's IV they are almost silent much better than my maxtor
The last thing to address is the PSU fan , the stock one is a pain in the neck and very annoying. To replace it simply get a replacement papst one from RS components
http://www.rswww.com/cgi-bin/bv/initSession.jsp
Its a 40mm Papst fan part number 412 F
Rs part code 200-7750
Its specs are 26db and 4.7cfm which appears to do the job.
To replace the fan u need to open up the psu after removing it from the shuttle , bear in mind this is very dangerous and shouldnt be attempted unless u know whats what. Also it will void ure warrantee I'm afriad. The fan is held in by two bent over pieces of metal carefully pull them back and pull out the old fan. You will need to cut off the old fan and solder on the new one puttin it in place and bending back the two metal holding pins to get it in position.
After all this ure shuttle should be noticable quieter.
