Let's say I need to get a set of speakers for general use, recommendations?

Left it to the last minute , need something around or less than £50, don't really care if it is 5.1, i think i'd rather have a better sounding 2.1 as i probably won't have the room to set them up as 5.1 and will likely just use it as 2.1 at all times.

Needs to have a decent sub (bass very important), and overall good sound. Was going to go for the Klipsch 2.1 as i've heard very good things about them but they are £100 (unless you know cheaper?)

Will be used for movies through PS2/TV, music from DAP, and casual gaming from PC.

    Thanks

I had mine wired through my hifi until I got my surround sound set, which is now back with my PC via a toslink optical cable. You'd get much better sound than most PC speakers, but otherwise Creative speakers have always been good, Creative I-Trigue 2.1 3400 Speakers could be a possibility clicky
The megaworks systems are nice, but double your budget.

Logitech have a nice set, the Z-3 2.1 clicky, if you want something truly well designed, then the Speedlink 2.1 set designed by F.A. Porsche would be about right, pretty powerful to boot clicky

My suggestions, sorry bout the 2 over budget suggestions, just food for thought.

cheap amp and a pair of speakers out of the local look would be my choice.

dosent have to be a hi-fi system, just a seperates amp.

mind you, having said that, at the mo i am using a car amp run off a spare psu, sounds plenty good enough for my ears and certainly goes loud enough

Have look on ebay for 2nd hand altec lansing, I picked up a set of 5.1 for £5, original price was £150. Just had a look and thers some rather nice ACS340 on there new buy it now, ace speaker had them before my upgrade. Very loud with plenty of bass. Sub is very good quality nad heavy, tweaters very solid as well.

Also a set of ADA885, intersting 5.1 setup where the front centre is split between the left and right speakers, and when you dont want them in 5.1 mode you can slot the rears on top of the fronts.

Best for quality but i will be too limited in space, so a computer-style 2.1 set would be more practical

My recommendation is that you should go for the Altec Lansing ATP3 (2.1 Speakers). They cost something like £50.

That link you put down is the one.

I've got the same set in black, and will be selling them shortly if you're interested, I still have the plastic wrap bits on the remote and the lcd panel
