Do you use QFan? It sure does make a massive difference to the noise. But of course, that is shown by temps: I get 40 idle with qfan on and 36ish w/o.

No, I don't. But then I have a fan controller.

Yep I use QFan. With my retail heatsink it makes a huge difference. It's nice and quiet when idle, then the fan spins up if needed when gaming.
You can get the same results with software such as Speedfan, but I prefer QFan, because you can turn it on and forget about it.
Have something similar in the BIOS of my Asus P4C800E Deluxe.
You can manually set the fan divider and make it spin slower. Makes a big difference to the noise of the fan.
I'm just about start trying out this QFAN.
But I'm not sure what temperatures do you set them to come on at and then what temperature to run a full speed etc.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated, as the humming/whirring is a bit anoying to say the least.
cheers.
Just got me some near-silent Sharkoons, and done away with the fan-controller - no need for QFan either.
