You have to have HDD Smart enabled in the bios for it to work though.

In my DFI board I have a feeling thats its in the 2nd down on the left (no idea of the name) in the main bios menu screen. I think that same one as choosing boot device priority, somewhere down near the bottom.

Speed Fan is your best bet.
Thats always managed to detect my HD's easily.
Running S.M.A.R.T is alleged to incur a (small) performance penalty...
