    Advice on PSU manufacturers wanted

    Hi,

Looking at one of 3 manufacturers for PC I'm looking to build. Current options are Tagan, Enermax and Silverstone (I'll be getting a Silverstone Temjin 5 case).

Please could anyone with advice or experience recommend which I should go for? (Or suggest another make if there's a really good one I've not spotted!)

    Thanks

I have a Tagan - no explosions, no fires. (Touch wood!)

Well I just bought a Seasonic 500W PSU. The reason being it is one of the most energy efficient available and extremely quiet. Compared with fanless designs the price is reasonable. The Seasonic will run continuously at 500W with 84% efficiency and with savings in electricity it will work out cheap in the long term. Also you get to save the planet from certain doom. It has every conceivable power connector. Includes a good length of twisty spiral cable tidy. Also an adaptor cable with 1x12v 2x5v fan connectors for your case fans. Was £76 inc

Tagan is rock solid but the efficiency is not so good. Enermax has high efficiency but the 80mm fans are not as quiet as the 120mm in the Seasonic. Silverstone... dunno.

Top of the line no expense spared: PCP&C mate.

Decent quality and great build: Tagan.

Great features, little expensive: OCZ or Enermax.

    Quiet: Seasonic

    IMHO of course

Good to see another Seasonic fan

I have an older 400 Watt Tornado, so I vote for Seasonic.

I recommend Tagan as its affordable, has great performance and its reliable.

For a little more money, an OCZ powerstream 520w, its fantastic, solid as a rock, great performance.. I bought one a month ago.

Never had ethier of these give me any problems.

If you dont want to spend too much, I would go with Tagan 530w

    Another vote for Seasonic!

    Got the S12 500W model.

The 80% efficiency is no marketing pap.

With my previous Antec 480W True Blue, there was a lot of heat being exhausted from the rear of the case.

With the Seasonic (same rig and load) there is a big reduction of heat coming from the rear.

The PSU is simply more efficent at converting the electricity as less heat is given off as waste.

Only bad thing is thats its not a modular PSU but hey, you can't have it all!

Another happy Seasonic owner here. They are well known for their acoustic superiority, however many neglect the fact that they are amongst the most efficient consumer PSUs around, with excellent build quality and a 3 yr warranty.

Tagans are well regarded but many people dismiss Seasonics as they are not as well known. Many shops are now stocking Seasonic PSUs (it used to be very difficult to get them) so their popularity will no doubt increase.

I got my S12-430 from Germany but you can get them from Scan and Kustom now.

If sound really is an issue then you best buy a seasonic power supply. they really are whisper quiet. If solid power is your thing then the best is the pc power & cooling. They really are rock solid under ALOT of load.
If the pcp&c is a bit expensive then id get an ocz and after that look at enermax.
I wanted a pcp&c PSU originally but price meant I settled with an OCZ 600w powerstream.

Really good feedback thanks. I'll go and investigate the Seasonic, OCZ and PCP&C options, although the latter may get ruled out on cost!

What about Aerocool. I've got one of their Turbine Power 550W PSU's. Extremely quiet, looks good, ATX 2.0 and BTX compliant. Plus it's modular and cost's around 60 inc VAT.

I'm a proud Tagan owner.. German engineering matched with German tech reliability.. You can't really go wrong with Tagan..

Ditto with the rest of the Tagan community.. they're quite cheap for a high-end PSU and the split rails really keeps everything running smooth as silk.. Very reliable overclocking PSU as well..

Enermax and OCZ both have uber reputation, tho I don't find Enermax stuff very attractive..

QTec PSUs are presents you give to a guy you really hate.. They don't need to be plugged in to know they're rotten.. Why havent Osama bin Laden figured that they could buy in a bunch of these to make them great matyr vehicles..
    Me want Ultrabook

I second that, Ive had a Qtec psu blow up on me, smoke, flames, toxic fumes,
    very deadly in close quarters.
