    One of the most technical IDE cable threads

    right, got a shuttle. running single channel ide cable on ide1 and normal ide on ide2.

    ide1: mobo <----> m: 10gb OS hdd
    ide2: mobo <----> m: 250gb HDD ----> s: 250gb HDD

    i need to expand. so i want to run an ide cable which matches this desc.

    ide1: mobo ---> 10cm to m: 10gb OS HDD ----> 50cm (out of shuttle) DVD Writer

    so from mobo to master, about 20cm then master to slave i want a gap of about 50cm so i can run it out of the shuttle and rest the dvd drive on top.

    i currently use a usb ide thing, but its crappy, hit and miss and its externally powered so the drive stays on even if the shuttle is off. i want something more permanent and less hassle.

    when working at tekheads i know we had 50cm to 50cm gap'd cables, but i cant find any now!

    give me your opinions and best methods.

    another plan would be to have normal on ide1 to 2 devices run a single out of the shuttle, then split the single to a 2 channel cable outside of the box, tho i havent seen anything like this. so it may not be possible.

    Thats a fairly odd request.

    Surely, external USB/Firewire bay is the way to go? Else you have to run a molex out of your case to it as well and then its going to be real messy.

    Is the USB bay your using dodgy? I've used many and they all seem to work well

    Although if you dead set on your idea, I know MicroDirect sell 1m IDE cables.
