Advice: New shuttle 'system', what to get?

    Hello guys,

I'm posting for a friend who wants to get a shuttle as a pre-assembled 'system', as he can't be bothered putting another one together (he's done it quite a few times) as he's off to uni by the end of this week.

He's going to be running 3DSMAX quite a bit so it would need a fairly decent GFX and he wants to play TFC/HL2 etc. Budget £1000.

Does any one know of a decent online retailer that sells pre-assembled shuttles?

It would be best if they also have an outlet in the Teeside/Yorkshire area.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks, Mike

not for that budget, no for a low/mid level cad station I reckon you need the following:-

Shuttle case is going to be 200-300
    decent cpu -200
    2 gig ram -200
    cad graphics -200
    big HD - 100
    optical drive and OS- 100

thats £1000 minimum for hardware alone then add on their fee for putting it together and its going to be £1200 I'd reckon with anyform of after sales warranty etc

do a search for Glowlounge and Gemma they do pre built systems methinks

Its suprising, I do some 3DS Max stuff on my PC and I manage with a GeForce 4 MX420. You don't need that much power, a 6600GT or similair would do fine. Mesh do a custom Spec SFF PC, you can get one with an AMD 3500+, 1GB of Ram and a 6600GT for £930ish.

Glow Lounge are a very good company - lovely people, exceptional customer service - great coffee shop as well. I've no idea how they make any money from their PC business though - they seem a bit too "nice" for the cut throat ultra competitive PC retailing business and their margins must be tiny. They did me a couple of good deals on various bits and bobs too. Would strongly recommend them.

Guess the only downside for you is that they're in Clapham, London which precludes a viewing / demo. I'm sure they'll deliver though.
