Aye indeed. Such a shame that my soundcard cannot output 5.1 via the optical cable.
Will soon be sorting that out with a new soundcard that does:D
What mobo you got in there? I'm running an Abit NF7-S v2.0, and using the optical out on that. Was planning to buy an Audigy 2 but never got round to it.
Dave
BTW, I would suggest moving the speakers further apart, I originally had mine like that, moved em further apart and the 5.1 audio on dvds etc sounded better. There was more of a distinction between left right and centre, so the Surrond Sound bit came more to life. Have you got it linked up with the Skybox? and Video/DVD player in the pic?
Specs are in the "my system" box on the left. I got it hooked up to Telewest cable digital. I only use that VCR/DVD player for copying vcr's and home video onto dvds. The SCHT-900's 5 DVD changer is pro for films:rockon: IIRC the only soundcard that can output Dolby Digital 5.1 is the Hi Tec X-Mystique 7.1 and the "soundstorm" on the NF7-S mobo.
Yup, thats the one. I thought the audigy could do 5.1 easily. Its got all the other goodies - Dolby Digital, DTS etc. Are you using Dolby Pro-Logic 2 atm? It distorts teh soundfield - ie things dont come from the right speakers etc, where as thats something that becomes much more defined if you move to optical.
Dave
IIRC all soundcards can output 5.1 through the optical, but only if its playing a dvd on a player with a decoder. On games youre stuck with the front 3 channels and the sub.
Nope. Theres a great feature (at least in teh Soundstorm Software) to create a centre channel, and mirror the front speakers to the rear. Voila you now have 5.1 :)

EDIT: Hexus being wierd, told me link was invalid, then posed anyway.....
Had a bit of a re-arrange, so now I don't have computers sitting on the floor serving as vacuum cleaners.

Looks like a sweet room, a couple of the uni's I've been looking at have great courses etc but no internet in the halls.. :P
EDIT: Just noticed the iHP-140! Great player!
Recently moved into a new apartment, decided to go for new desks to complement the new 'puters - in the bedroom.
Tucked away at the back is my A8N-SLI (XP x64), connected to both TFTs using DVI cables.
On the right underneath is the HP Pavilion with Vista installed (connected to both TFTs using HD15 cables).
Laptop is the work one.
Photo printer sits on top but is actually connected to the web server in the next room.
Girlfriend's setup is an identical desk, 1x 15" TFT and 1x19" CRT connected to her P4 and A8N-SLI systems respectively.
2 Shuttle XPCs sit in the other room and act as Domain Controller and web/print/file servers.
