There's a lot of talk at the moment about the 1xx opterons moving over to socket 939. They will be the equivalent of San Diego cores, so they have 1MB L2 cache, and will come clocked as low as 1.8GHz. The bonus is that the socket 939 Opteron will no longer required ECC or registered RAM, regular unbuffered RAM will do.
So basically this chip is ideal for the budget conscious overclocker. The Opteron 144 running at 1.8GHz should cost as little as the similarly clocked venice 3000+ or 3200+, but with twice as much cache. And according to this guy at XS, will overclock as high as 2.8GHz: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...4&page=1&pp=25
So, anyone know where we can find these beauties in the UK?
