Intel or AMD for Video/Gaming machines

What role would you recommend for the following? I currently have the games machine on the Intel platform, but have the option of the AMD. Games rig is currently running GTA:SA, COD:UO, Battlefileds2, and Video machine is using ULead MovieFactory2, ULead Workshop3, Vidomi (converting recorded TV mpegs to divx)

Thanks for any input.

AMD rules for gaming, intel for encoding AFAIK.

AMD for gaming, Intel for video encoding. I personally would go for an AMD, always rooting for my A-town homies (lol)

Cool, thanks for the info, looks like AMD for games rig and Intel for encoding.

I have the Intel already as the games rig, and might grab the AMD just to play with, I like getting different hardware in to play with.

I'd say AMD... you will only really notice a difference on the encoding through the intel when your doing big tasks. Say mastering videos, but they always take a while anyway! - six

Right now, AMD is only slightly behind intel in video encoding at the same price point and is significantly faster for games.

Between the two systems you have listed I would be very surprised if the A64 was not faster in everything.

AMD everytime, what you loose in encoding is made up for and much more in gaming

Go for the AMD, Gaming performance will be awesome. Encoding performance is not bad either but not as good as Intel.

You always have the choice to upgrade to an X2 processor which you'll get the best of both worlds

I have an AMD and I find that they are excellent for gaming. I think quite a lot of people seem to be drifting to AMD now, even my dad likes AMD and his computer has one thats about 10 years old and still going great.

So, personally, I would go AMD. The Pentium isn't really a big deal and its more of a mainstream processor, AMD seems more for enthusiasts and keen gamers.

but afaik that's because the Intel always tended to be running a higher clockspeed & the apps were sensitive to that.

With a 754 3200+ depending on core he will have exactly the same clockspeed as his Intel system so nothing in it.
