Im thinking of

AMD 3200 venice (I will overclock this) £93
DFI Lan Party NFL Sli-d £120
BFG 7800gtx 256mb £352

comes to £565


What would you choose? different cpu? graphics? The max budget is £600

Let me know, you will be helping me in my final selection, and I value your thoughts.

I don't know what your other prices were as you have not posted them but you might able to squeeze in an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ although I'm not entirely sure if this would benefit you.

Dont forget to budget a larg PSU into your spec, and a good cooler if you want to look seriously at OCing the prosesser. The two together could set you back antoher £100!

You could consider an Asus A8N _SLI Delux which is slightly cheaper than the DFI. A faster single core would probs be better for game for now...

I would chose:

DFI NF4 Ultra-d : Fantastic overclocker and can be modded to SLI if needed. ~£100

Either: 3700+ San Deigo £190 1mb cache and good overclocker: ~£190
x2 3800+ Dual core, cheap and seems to clock well ~£245

7800GT ~£260

single core = £550
dual core = £605

I'm not sure if you are budget limited the extra £100 for a gtx over gt is really worth it. If you're that desparate for a GTX go for it but I don't see the point as a 7800gt is more than enough. Also depends on how big your monitor is, if its only 17 or 19" then there is really no point in a gtx as you won't be able to play the high resolutions.

I'd go for dual core over single core as dual core will really come into its own in games in the coming year.

Well if there's room for actual posts in this thread of most humongous signatures, I agree with darkhorse, but go with the SLI motherboard you had in your post (ie, DFI SLI-D, A64 3700+ san diego, and 7800gt). Future proofing is pointless when it comes to games, and especially CPUs. You're better off getting the best power for the money today and using future money on GFX upgrades later down the line. By the time you need a new processor for games there will probably be some great new standard that requires a change of motherboard anyway.

Well, Im thinking down the line, about 3 months or so, and the reason why im going for the 7800gtx is Im hoping to buy a 20" widescreen monitor around christmas time. So the power of the 7800gtx will be viewed in all its glory.

Also going with the venice 3200, is because its very cheap, overclocks well, and will be good for a year or so. Then I will replace it with a dual core cpu, when they are bit cheaper. out of my budget at the moment.

Also if I get a venice, I might be able to squeeze in some 2gb ram.

I have a good psu already to back all this up. OCZ powerstream 520w which I bought few months back
