    Silly temperature readouts?

    Hey guys

Just bought myself an Akasa Evo 33, installed it and now my temps are completely stupid. Apparantly its running now at 22 degrees and my room temperature is 25 degrees! How does that happen? Is there a fault somewhere and that reading could be 122 degrees? its very very confusing, and to top it all off I dont think the heatsink is as tight as it could be, doesnt seem as tight as my older one I just removed...

Anyone help me with this? ANyone fitted an Evo 33 before and noticed that it aint as tight as it could be? I have tried to take it off and put it back on again, but the screws seem to just turn in the backplate socket? any help appreciated..

Revert the AV8 BIOS to rev 21. Apparently part of the earlier AV8 winbond chips were calibrated differently than those newer AV8s.. and BIOS rev 24 is to fix those calibrations on the older AV8s... if you are seeing rediculously low temps.. its probably just an over calibration of the thermistor..

I had the same problem when I stuck in my XP-90C with a Vantec Tornado on Rev 24.. the room temps is 19C and my CPU is running 15C.. How wierd is that? Revert to Rev 21.. eveyrthings back to normal...

AHh thanks for that ill give it a whirl. Do you know how to get the heatsink off the chip as the back plate stand offs are just spinning in the socket? Any ideas?

    Cheers

uhh... did u really removed rev 24? Nevermind, you could just give rev 19 a fling.. from what I've heard rev 19 are supposed to be the most stable ones...

On the other hand you could just get an external thermistor and calibrate it yourself and build up a normal curve, that way you'll know what the rediculous temps actually mean..

Where does it say room temperature is 25 degrees? You sure you don't mean system temperature? In my system the CPU does run cooler than the system board, there is nothing odd about that if you have a good heatsink and a mobo that runs warm.

Yeah but its impossible to remove that much heat from the CPU without using a different fluid to air. Fair enough 1 or 2 degrees, you could class that as error but your talking like 14-15 degrees difference. My actual room temp is 24 degrees from my clock on my bedside cabinet.

The only way I can think having damaged it in any way is when i took my old heatsink off it pulled the CPU out the socket completely, but ive had that happen before

Could i have donald ducked it?

CPU thermistors are bad at the best of times. You're looking at +/-10C for a good one... I wouldn't worry.

No probs, its just a case of deciding whether the money was well spent as now i haveno idea how good a cooler this actually is. Which defeats the purpose of the purchase LOL
