The monitor hooked to your laptop is the most portable you can get. WHy did you buy a loptop with a monitor that is not adequate?

    well, i have a 15.4" monitor because
    1) battery life
    2) price

but im used to having two monitors for cad anyway (trust me 2 15" monitors ownes a single 17" monitor for cad)

and besides, i dont only use my laptop for cad, so im hoping i wont need to take the second monitor with me all the time

What's wrong with a 15.4? I have a 14.1 and it's just fine for CAD. It's a widescreen though so that may play into it.

I'm having a little trouble understanding what you want a second monitor for, especially if you are hoping you don't have to take it with you. What are you trying to accomplish?

ok, basically, i am used to using two monitors for CAD and graphics work, now, what i want is a portable monitor that i can take with me when i need to do cad/graphics work but leave at home when i dont need to basically.

and my monitor is widescreen too...

Do you need it to run on batteries like your laptop?

yeah, that would be good, or it could be usb powered (or if it ran off a 5 volt transformer i can always mod it).

actually, thinking about it if i ran off any kinda relativly low voltage transformer i could mod some batteries onto it
