    SHuttle Memory installation *help*

    All,

I just found this site and I hope you can help me..I have a SN85G4 V3 with only 512 mb of ram. I've spoken to Shuttle Cust. service (pretty lowsy service so far)..and I have followed their "exact instructions" and ordered a stick of 512mb memory from Kingston (recomended on their site at - http://global.shuttle.com/Support/Su...20(FN85%20V2.5)

I've now installed this stick and an additional stick (from anothe rmfg who recomended this for my specific unit) inserted in and locked it in.... yet the system will not recognize it!! (?)

All SHuttle says is it must be defective memory. Now I've worked in San Jose in high-tech for over 13 years ..but I'm no engineeer ...but geezus I've installed TONS of memory..does anyone have any idea's??

I love my box.. I just need more horsepower!

    Thanks in advance

John - Santa Cruz , CA.....

Shuttle is very picky about the ram they take. What is the other stick manufacturer? ECC non-ECC?

The other stick I used was a *very* low cost stick from "Advance Modules" AM512D16A16C-C-PC3200 64x64 DDR 512mb 400 mhz, CL3

Assembled in malaysia - I got it from online from CLT Computer (Mwave.com) they suggested this memory for my Shuttle..it never worked either.

RE> ECC non-ECC? Im not sure what you mean? (I'm sorry Im not an engineer just a power user). I do appreciate your answering my post I hope you can help.

ECC ram is mainly for server's and Shuttle do not support it

Does the stick that you have work in the other slot?

Try taking out what you have and inserting the new stick to see if it is recorgnised in that port.

Also try the stick that you know works in the other slot and see if that is recorgnised.

If that doesn't work then post back and il think of some more things to try.

    Tino,

I've looked into the chassis where the "original" ram is and it is impossible to take out w/o some serious removing of other items which Im just not comfortable doing.

Any other idea's? I really do appreciate your help..Im beginning to think IM going ot have to take this to "geek Squad' or a local computer shop to figure it out..If I knew memory was going to be THIS hard to add..I would have thought twice about buying the Shuttle.....grrrr ;-(

Is it not recognized in the bios? Or just in windows? If its the latter id suggest looking into different latency settings, if tis the former then its more than liekly a dodgy stick of ram. Have you got another machine you can test the ram in?
