xp3000 cooler advice

hi,i'm new to the forum and did want to open a new post for this so here goes........i built up a spec of the pc i wanted to build (first time i will have built one)and i chose the amd xp3200 retail processor only ebuyer were out of stock when i ordered..and i can't seem to find one anywhere else and i read on a comment in ebuyer that amd were stopping the xp processors,so am i to late?

ztec, you shouldnt be afraid to open a new post, but to answer your question, yes i believe that is probably accurate. AMD have a replacement for the socket A platform in the shape of the socket A Sempron which is base on the AMD xp architecture. So if you cant get the xp3200 anywhere, look for a socket A Sempron 3100 or 3200 for example. If your motherboard is quite old, you may have to flash the BIOS in order for it to accept the new chip, and you can find more details on that from the mobo makers website.

If you havent ordered or recieved any other components for your build, then you might want to consider cancelling and buying the newer technology platform. Feel free to start a new thread if you have any further questions.

Seconded. Best XP air cooler that was ever made, coupled with a 92mm silent fan and your laughing. My XP-M 2500 runs @ 2.4gig with temps <40C idle, <45C load.

SI-97 surely (don't wish to seem pedantic but the SP-97 is the older model)? i have one cooling an athlon xp 2200+ with a silenx 14dba fan and it is a very good combination.

Hi all
Panaflo came today so only waiting for the heatsink to come anyone who has this how do i connect the fan to the h\s, was wondering as at the moment have the side off and looking at temp fitting it to my volcano12 too see the results?

Its extremely easy. The heatsink comes with a couple of rubber strips which you stick on the top between heatsink and fan, and then you attach the fan via the simple retension mechanism incorparated in the heatsink. No screws in sight.

Continuing in the vein of Thermalright HSFs... I retired my SP-97 yesterday for a XP-120 and the size/weight difference is incredible. It's obviously larger than my SP-97 but it's a 1/4 of the weight which makes me worry less about moving my pc
