creative X-fi and digital out question?

i was thinking about getting an x-fi to go with my creative inspire speakers, but i have heard the x-fi card has no digital out on the card itself,
you need to get the breakout box to get a digital out option,
is this for real? if so it means spending an extra £70-£100 or so to get the "fps" or "pro" editions of the card
    why would creative do that?

What speakers you looking to use as theres quite a nice little thread popping up on the creative forum regarding the X-Fi cards and the digital out NOT working correctly with certain creative speakers which can be found HERE

Also, theres a thread about the X-Fi and Nforce4 with a few motherboards having issues. Again, this can be found HERE

    Hope this information helps

Ah now, whether the digital works or not is another matter (and one I didn't know about ) But the cards themselves have digital outs as part of a 3-in-1 mini jack (3.5) output according to the SB website.

FlexiJack (Performing a 3-in-1 function, Digital Out / Line In / Microphone) via 3.50 mm minijack
That it doesn't work with the 5700 or other popular speakers sounds poo.
