Think I've blown my barton 2500, advice please

    A7N8X-X
    Barton 2500 @ Stock
    Twin Mos 256 400DDR
    G4 Ti 4000 (or summat)
    Aero 7+ - standard grease

Took my HSF off, wanted to see if I'd drop a few degrees, so I turned it around... greased the baby back up (super think layer) turned the comp on = Went off after a few seconds.
So I new it was over heating, I turned the HSF around (back to orginal postiton, re-greased, - turned on, went to BIOS - 96 degrees C. TURNED IT OFF

I had not cliped the HSF correctly. I took it off, re-greased etc.. made sure it was all ok... turned it on

BLANK SCREEN. Done everything again, BLANK SCREEN (no beeps).

Took out the memory, and then turned it on, BEEEEEEEEP BEEEEEEP.

So I new it wasn't a mem problem, put that back in, reset CMOS. - Stick blank screen, (no beeps).

Took out the CPU all together = Blank screen... (no beeps)

Have I blown my barton 2500??

Unless you want to pay ££'s at a shop, you kind of need to know someone willing to either swap out their socket A chip for you - or better still if they have a modern enough board, put your chip in their board.

    No location in your id.

Yup. I'm not personally familiar with Aero 7+ but most SktA HS will have a step on one side meaning it only has one way of correctly being mounted. It really does sound as though you've killed your CPU but you may also have damaged the mobo too. Try your CPU in another mobo and ideally a new CPU in your mobo.
