Unhappy Help - I think I killed my motherboard

    Please help

The power cable was accidentally pulled out while my computer was running.
When I reconnected the power supply
the green led light at the front comes on
but pressing the power button gives no response at all from my computer.
I changed my power supply and get the same result.

    Have I killed my motherboard?

If that doesn't work strip down to the basics

    CPU, RAM, Cooler, GFX card

Nothing else - unplug the lot.

Try again - then slowly build the system back up.

Thanks a lot for your advice
I will try what you suggested.

    No fans spin,
the only sign of life is the little green led on the front of the case.

Check for any screws which may be shorting somewhere on the board.

I agree, sounds like a short. Unlikely that it's a screw seeing how this happened. I'd go along with David's suggestion, with a twist. Make sure you're earthed. Take it out of the case and put it on something electrically inert (like a cardboard box) next to it. Take everything out except the CPU & fan, connect the mobo powerleads (and the on/off switch), switch on and see if the fans now spin. If they don't, do they start to spin and then immediately stop or never start?

I've seen similar behaviour from a blown PSU, but if you've tried a second already, it cuts that out.

You might also try removing and then putting back the CMOS battery.

    Not dead

Many thanks for all the sugestions.

I cleared the cmos and took everything off the motherboard
and then connected them one by one
and the sound card had broken.
My pc is now working fine again.

My computer expert friend Steve has pronounced it dead on many occasions but it still lives on.
It is 5 1/2 years old
