SATA HD and DVDRW problem

All I do on here is moan about how my new (x) doesn't work, but oh well, I do appologise

Right, Asus A8V Deluxe mobo, one IDE Hard Drive, want to add a SATA HD and also a Plextor SATA DVD+/-RW. So, I put them both in, but neither are detected by Windows, I've been researching the problem for 2 days but nothing has helped in the slightest, but I've always gotten good results from here, so, yus. Please help!
