What PSU?

What power PSU do you guys reckon I need to power this spec PC I'm building? All from scan.co.uk. Can anyone recommend a well priced one for me.

I had considered the LN7925 425W HiperPower HPU-4S425 4th Gen Quiet Dual Fan Active PFC (24/20 pin)(ATX/BTX) £35.12

but don't know if this would be powerful enough

*Sigh* I don't mean to be rude dude but this 'which PSU' thread comes up on a weekly basis; if not that, even more. Maybe th e past threads may offer all the help you need? Nevertheless I will try and help lol.

I would perhaps go for a Tagan PSU between 400-500. Anything over 480 actually is quite unnessecary I believe for your particular set up

Sorry mate. It's just that I really don't know when it comes to PSUs and needed to know what power is required for the parts I'm using - made more complicated by the water cooling. Plus I'm pretty pissed with searching through so many posts and not finding what I need.

There are alot of the basic "which PSU for my computer" threads out there right now, so you'll have to forgive us regulars for feeling a little tired of them

I would say get an Antec 480W for that. They are solid PSU's, very few people will disagree with that. 480W should be enough for you too. The only reason I'd suggest 480 and not 330 for you is because of the dual core P4, which will suck up power.


A word of advice though, post a thread asking for advice on your spec, it looks fairly unbalanced to me personally. But maybe I'm just missing something

400-450 should be more than enough, although I'm a person who constantly adds rediculous amounts of HDD to my system. Tagan or Seasonic should serve you well.. If you could afford an EasyCon then you wont have to fiddle with all the lousy cabling ever again.

Look around, I'm sure you'll find PLENTY of PSU threads.. it was fun at 1st.. like 3 weeks ago.. now its just getting a little bit too often.. ehehe

I'm not personally very impressed with Tagan, and have just been helping a guy with 7 disks in total for whom a tagan was waaaaaaaaay undervolting his 5.0V line. I think they probably place a little too much importance on the 12.0V rail tbh.

I find 5 drives works fine with all the other usual bits on 330W Antec, just to give you an idea of how much people overpower their rigs.

And allow another 20% for safety (IMO). Also if you're going to upgrade your 6600 then think about putting the new card in - unless you want to buy a new PSU when you upgrade.

Go for a ATX v2.0 400-500 watt PSU as this will suit your setup and will also provide room for upgrades in the future.
