Help storing games on a separate hard drive to windows boot drive?!

Hi, recently i bought a WD hardisk to put my games and music on so I wouldnt lose it everytime i re-installed windows, however, recently, some of my games like half-life 2 and black and white 2 havent been playing because it says they cant be located like steam.exe cant be located or balckandwhite2.exe can't be located. Everytime i install a game, i used the name that the games trys to install like \valve\steam\half-life2 etc...and just put f:\ in front of it instead of c:\ This works but after a period of time the game no longer plays, whats going on? Am i doing it wrong? Thanks, John.

Steam is an absolutley awful delivery system - its never worked as it should. There are several fixes for HL2 based around deleting the .blob file etc - maybe have a read of the valve forums and see if anyone else is having the same error. Have u tried going to the actual exe and running the game? does that work? Is your AV up to date Are these the only these 2 games that are effected? Have u added any patches to the game? sometimes these can screw things up. If u right click the shortcut and go to properties is the file path correct? just a few ideas of the top of my head.
