    HDD dead?

OK - Just built a system up (2000XP, 256Mb RAM, ATi 9600, 30Gb Maxtor, ASRock K7S8XE), started to install XP and it kept comming up with an error 'Cannot verify resorce' or something.

I tryed changing the RAM as I thought this cheap generic stuff I had lying around might be damaged and tryed a stick of my TwinMOS - still no joy, thought it might be the CD drive not reading properly so I changed that over.

It'll install Windows 98 although didn't try it out for very long, inside the XP install it just wouldnt carry on ... after rebooting at one point the BIOS reported that the HDD was a 'Maytor ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !' and then read 'Boot Record ... OK' then just sits there!

HELP ... Whats going on (spent my whole evening in front of BIOS and Windows installs)!

Try the disk on another mobo and try installing XP on it there. Or try another hard disk on your Asrock mobo.

Hard disk on it's own ribbon may help (if it isn't already)

It could be a duff disk, but you can get a util off maxtors site to check the disk out with.
