X2 4600 vs 4800

I'm aware they are the same stock clockspeed, but the 4800 has 1mb cache.

Is it really worth the £150 more? What real world benefits would I get from it, or should I say, what tasks is it used in?

very doubtful would need to be something else very special to justify it, id say your going fasting enough with a 4600 to worry, least buy it now u can upgrade down the road when the prices are to drop and what i hear that wont be long.

Pyle, its just the CPU I'm saving for now. I have my 2gb OCZ Platinum PC3200 2-3-2-5 RAM and Asus EN7800GTX TOP edition Although, I'm going to leave my current SATA as a storage drive and use a new SATA-II for Windows and games/software installations

If you read the reviews, they say on the Dual core that clock speed is a more important factor than cache. Given, both the 4600 and 4800 operate at 2.4GHZ, then save £150 and go for the 4600. If you want to save more, go for the 4400 and that will easily handle a 10% overclock without changing voltage upto 2.4GHZ (a 4800 for £340).

Ooh, thats a good idea, I guess the heat output is slightly increased (two cores on one die), but they are still fairly good overclockers?

Agreed. Why go for the 4600 when you can have the 4400+ for much cheaper and still with the same core as the 4800+?? Just do what I did (see sig)
