Poorly shuttle – keeps shutting down

I have an SN41G2 shuttle with an AMD 2500 + 1gig of ram, the machine just keeps rebooting under a little stress, it’s happy to sit idle all day and I’m using it now, but as soon as I put a little stress on it, bang just shuts down. When I say stress it can be anything from trying to run a game or burning a cd, once it happens once you have to wait a few mins to get it going again.

A red light comes on the motherboard that so you can’t turn it on until you remove the power cable then replug it. Once it happens it takes less time for it to do it again if you know what I mean, which makes me think it’s a stress or heat problem

    It’s doing my head in!

I have so far tried different memory, reset all the bios defaults, turned off all ‘shut down temperature’ options and reseated the cpu twice.

Any ideas guys it’s peeing me off… dodgy psu?

What speed is your ram running at?

What temps do you get when it shut's down? If you could find out that would be helpful.

    What's the Idle temp?

What else do you have in there?

ok sure, the ram is 2 x 512 running at clock speed 333.. idle temp for the cpu is around 46 and it seems to shut down around 55, but i used to have this shuttle overclocked and running at nearly 3200 speeds before all this started. i have a 80 maxtor and a 6800 GT geforce card

Have you tried running it without the Graphics card? Could be that there isnt enough power from the PSU. Although they are generally very good.

reseated the cpu and heatsink, then took all the pretty neon lights out - all seems to be working ok now, so maybe a power spike ? as i have reseated the cpu 2 times prior to this.
