    Non-SLi S939 Motherboard?

If I was to purchase a non-SLi AMD motherboard... would the 'Abit AN8 Ultra' be a good choice. I wouldn't bother asking only I've read some bad things about it being a general pain in the...

theres someone on here by the name of BUF i think, who swears by his. Theres a few others with it as well ive and its one im considering (actually its almost certain to be my board for next system). Other than its not the best over clocker in the world i havent heard too many negative things about it. What issues have u heard of that concern u? Maybe some people with the board can address those points specifically

    Permanently confused

    You called?
It may not be "the" best but it's pretty far up there - HTTs of 395/400 etc. possible & 3.55Vdimm available under certain BIOS.

I don't think that it's any trickier than any other "enthusiast" nF4 mobo - you need a good PSU, reasonable RAM & installed properly. No doubt the DFI fans will say the same of their board.
Another 1 to consider would be the KN8 Ultra - that loses the Q-OTES passive chipset cooling & uGuru but gains an extra mobo power connection, legacy ports & is slightly cheaper.

    ROFL!

Never heard a truer word spoken!

    /applaud

"Enthusiast boards" are tricky to get working, but once there, rock solid. It took me ages to get my DFI working right (2 PSUs, 2 sets of RAM, endless tinkering of BIOS options) but I've never been happier now. Never used a more stable PC.

The bad review came from here and as I'm rather new to overclocking and want to give it a go, I was just a little put off.

Yeah, I had an email correspondence with Kyle - it bears no resemblance to my experience. It's always possible that they got a bad board but they were also using BIOS 16 when 17 was out .

Even then they did say that they got a stable 300HTT.

Neither the DFI or ABIT nF4s seem particularly keen on Corsair at stock timings, you have to do some tweaking to the timings.

Yey, more reading up to do!

Alright cheers, I've replaced the 'Asus A8N SLi' in my list with this board.

ASUS A8N-E is supposed to be pretty decent too but it has a chipset fan that may be a bit whiny.

I'm also looking for a new mobo but I've been looking at the KN8 ultra, as it looks as though this has sata2 whereas the AN8 doesn't. Am I correct in this and is there any other difference/advantage?

(sorry to hijack the thread but I thought you might also be interested in the answers!)

The AN8 Ultra does have SATAII, and, as BUFF said, uGuru and heat pipe chipset cooling over the KN8 board.
