    FEAR system requirement!

Preordered FEAR from gameplay... came today! WOOHOO..

Then I thought.. Will 1GB of RAM be enuf to cut the mustard? and the answer is NO!

1GB of XMS in dual channel... LAGG!!! Even at 2.6Ghz... Its really not the graphics card.. the game runs smoothly between loadings.. but loading up a new part of a map.. BOY! esp when the firefight gets between maps... stick in 4 sticks of 512 Microns... its MUCH better.. still lags abit.. but at least its playable during firefights..

2GB is a bare minimum... tahts why the gaem box stated that it runs best on Win XP x64.. I suppose its refering to the 4GB memory addressing issue... 2GB is the bare minimum.. anyone who havent got themselves 2x1GB... get it NOW!

I'd agree with that, 2Gb does help. My copy (also from Game) arrived this morning too, slotted it on my game rig (4000+, 2Gb) for hours of fun - until the missus insisted that I moved and did something. FEAR is a hog, just like BF2, but you are more than rewarded when playin, love the game.
What we share with everyone is glum, and dark...

the disc noted hints to x64 Windows.. its there for a reason right? Probably Monolith expected most of us are already using Win x64 and have enuf ching ching to drop them on 4 sticks of 1G memory....

Try turning off AA.. it helps abit.. running RAID will help as much.. I noticed by leaving about 30% disk space in the game drive gives must better transition.. probably data accession and virtual memory?

RAID is no where as fast as ram though.

Those guys with insane overclock with 2x256/2x512M are screwed by FEAR.

Guys, not wanting to disrupt the flow of the discussion, but I'm in close contact with Vivendi over the release date for FEAR, which is on the 18th.

If Game or Gameplay are flogging the game early, that's fair enough, so could you please post a pic of your retail box for us to see?

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Sawyen,

    Thanks for that, really appreciated.

I hope you understand that I wasn't inferring anything, just needed to make sure, Vivendi are VERY clear that it's an 18th October release and as I'm in touch with them all the time, I had to check.

Thanks very much and I hope you're enjoying the game... Both the SP and MP demos run sweet as on the HEXUS.gaming rig... and first impressions are at last there's a 'creppy' game to come close to Clive Barker's Undying.. which was a nicely creepy game!

    no prob Nick..

    Javalord:
Yea.. 2GB I find is a bare minimum (for me).. 1GB in dual channel just dun have enuf capacity to run the game smoothly.. the memory buffer alone already takes up 500+MB, minus the 250MB windows chews away.. and about 100+ for the background programs... Screw my doctorate title, even a 10 year old can do this math..

Hmm, I'll be getting review code on Tuesday (gutted) and I'll have a look then, but my rig runs the demos quite happily with 2x 512MiB in dual channel.

HEXUS.gaming Test rig specs, if anyone is interested.

As I mentioned before, its really not the gfx problem.. firefights within a loaded area is fine.. smooth as silk on my 6800GT @ Ultra.. even with 4xAA 8xAF.. but the game jerks around when u load into a new section of a map.. or u turn round into a corner into a AI filled area..

Its quite enjoyable during firefights.. but the lag and jerk when loading ur game into a new section will turn ppl off entirely... I mean, its definitely ok if these only come about every say 20 minutes of gameplay like HL2.. but these loading happens every say 1 min, 5 minutes max.. and they dont even tell u its loading.. at least HL2 has a big (loading) in front of the screen telling u its the page loading and not the system struggling..

EDIT: But either ways, if u already have 2x1G or some sort of brute force solution like my Microns (refer to sig).. the game should feel sufficiently smooth.. (Maybe I'm just being too picky.. sorry for beign a total ****head on these lag issues)
