    Question Samsung Harddrive thoughts please

Hi all just about to buy a new harddrive and have settled on the Samsung SP 1614n 160Gb 7200rpm, 8mb Cache IDE 133.

Just wondering what your thoughts were on this drive, main reason for choosing this is price, and performance.

Just read a review of it in PC Authority and it came top in the labtest with Drive Speed of 54,914KB/s and SysMark 2002 score of 257.

Any other suggestions will be considered but has to be IDE i'm afraid no SATA at the mo on my sys, saving the raptor for when i upgrade next year .

Best price i have so far is £81.67inc vat from www.komplett.co.uk

Most people on the Silent PC Review forums seem to think they are the logical successor to The Seagate Barracuda IV 40gb in terms of silence. Maxtors seem to be the chicken of choice here at Hexus due to good support and performance. Personaly that Samsung is what I'm gonna buy next.

That was also one of the resons it caught my eye, and when i read in the labtest that it beat every Maxtor, WD and Seagate they tested with it of same speed as well as all of the SATA ones i thought too good to be true... i guess not i think this is the one then thanks mate

P.S also it comes with a three year warranty as opposed to the 1 year being offered now by seagate. Maxtor and WD i think still do the 3 year warranty

P.P.S whats the best price you've managed to find or is the komplett price the one to go for.

I got an 80gb IDE Samsung from OCUK - and it is VERY fast, and VERY quiet (I've put it on some foam, with a metal holder to take some heat away, but it's not connected directly to the case)... some people on epiacenter who have both seagates and samsungs say the samsungs are quieter

highly recommended. Amazingly quiet. Winbench results (+ pics)here:
