    HD on the way out?

Started PC up today and spent about 1hr 30mins with a CHKDSK screen scanning HD, and ended up with literally hundreds of

'File record segment xxxxx is unreadable.' messages.

PC is running really slowly justnow aswell, and I ran chkdsk from the command prompt in windows with the same result. Does this indicate the HD is on its way out?

    Cheers,

    David

it could be, i had a simelar thing happen in work the other day but it turned out it was just a currupt XP installation. Might be worth getting powermax off the maxtor website and running a few of the tests on there, that should tell u if its got a problem - it don't matter if uve not got a maxtor drive it works on anything (well that ive tried so far)

Cool, i'll give it a go and see what it throws

Tried running CHKDSK set to repair any errors, too about 1hr to get trough all those messages and then just appeard to stop. So I gave up. I'll leave it on tonight though and see if it finishes.

Ran PowerMax last night, on both my HD's, first one failed the 90 second test, it said "This HD is failing" I guess that's pretty conclusive then?

I've backed up my documents I wanna keep. So i'll take that drive out @ the weekend and just use my 80Gb one for now until I can get another 30Gb one as a boot/document drive.

    Cheers,
    David
