SATA on NF4 doesn't work, what to do?

The SATA ports on my DFI NF4 SLI-D just gone dead half an hour ago. PATA ports are fine, GFX is fine, and I could boot into Memtest without any problem.

Tried a CMOS clear and it didn't help. The disks were checked on another computer and they worked perfectly fine.

What could have caused such a failure? Was playing games until it suddenly crashed

bummer. obviously sounds like a hardware fault. no idea what would cause that really. best get on the phone to whoever you got it from and get it replaced

Had this with mine early on. HDD dissappeared. I looked in the usual places (behind the fridge, down that crack at the back of the sofa) all to no avail.

Changed it to a different SATA port.. nada, so tried all of the nForce ones.... still nada
Took it to a friends with identical setup hoping that the HDD had fried.... no problem there.
Fresh install of XP into a PATA drive to satisfy myself that the mobo still worked... all ok.
Got all confused with the BIOS options to disable the various SATA ports - the ones where if you disable either 1/2 or 3/4 then you disable the other set (or sometimes all 4!)
Used a new SATA cable and connected to SATA3 (used to be SATA1) and bingo.

This would suggest that the SATA port died, but it's working now. Twas the SATA cable I hear you cry... nope.... since being used elsewhere.

OK, I know I'm not really helping you with your problem, other than to suggest that if you leave it alone for 18 hours before you head RMAwards, then it may fix itself.... I know mine did.. trixy lil dfi board this...

Replacing the SATA cable does work But the original one works on my other computers. Very weird...
