If you can be arsed, I suggest taking off the heatsink (when the pc's off, obviously) and removing the thermal paste there, then using Arctic Silver 5 because that's quite some heat you're producing, seeing as you have a non-stock cooler o.O

What size are the case and cpu fans?

Have a look at the AMD website and the specs for your particular CPU (you only specified the particular speed in the post, not the full part number) and it will tell you what the maximum temperature the chip will run at. Obviously the lower you can run it at, the better and the CPU is less likely to suffer premature failure!

No idea, what's the advantage of having one on it?

I really don't think it should be running at that temperature at idle with all that cooling, could be the temperature sensor playing up I guess, get it to a high temperature then turn off, see if it really is that hot, touch the heatsink or something.

I'm guessing you're using the front panel to measure the temp?

Hmm, I'm not sure then, it's odd though, hope you sort something out and sorry I couldn't help you further.

What are the temperatures of say, your gfx card and motherboard at idle? and anything else you can get readings off currrently

All seems pretty hot , for example I've got a thermalright xp-120 heatsink with a 120mm 58CFM fan running slower than top on an AMD Athlon 64bit 3500+, and it idles at about 30°C. And that's a similar setup to yours really. And my mobo is usually at around 17/20°C with four fans, 3 120mm, 1 92mm.

How long have you had it? Things could be dusty?

Well, look at it this way; least you get heating for your room as a bonus

about 3 weeks ago i done a total strip down clean and then rebuild i might just go and get a new cpu cooler or put the case back on top of my desk, also iam going to put one of my hard drives in my sons computer and i might take out the cdrw i dont use it much.
This might bring down the inside temp.

Could help airflow I guess, what's it like in there? Clear or a tangle of wires? I was quite conscious of moving cables out of the main area of the case to optimise airflow.

A new cooler could help yeah, try for something with a 120mm fan if you can fit it in, thermalright are generally very good heatsinks, see here.

Very tidy i used to have round cables but it was a mess so i used flat cables fitted tight to the drives all power cables tied and nice and neat. all dust blown out.

Could do, but I don't know much about ducts. And if you mean on your existing volcano, if it fits, sure you can .

I use Silenx fans, they're damn quiet, and pretty high airflow. For massively high airflow use Delta though

I have just striped down the heatsink and fan took the temp probe off i think i broke it last time applied paste refitted now a nice 48 degres must have been that probe you canot put it under the cpu makes it go funny i had to put it on the cpu socket must have caused a small gap between chip and heatsink.
