    HELP needed re: Power cord

    Hi,

I've bought a new PSU recently and it seems to be a European version as the power cord (kettle cord) has two pins (round). I have a spare cord but wanted to find out what is the correct fuse I should have inside?
Any help would be much appreciated!

I've found that a lot of the PSU's I've bought in the past have come with european 2 pin plugs, I usually just use a standard kettle lead and plug that in, never really thought about the fuse. Is that something I need to check in future??

I would have thought so, too much or too little may damage the components and considering how much they cost I just wanted to check.

PS I forgot to note that I live in the UK so we use a 3 pin cord

500watt power supply, voltage 240V, current =2A so use a 3A fuse (current =Power/Voltage), but power on surge may well blow the fuse so you may need a 5A fuse.

Having said that, the fuse is actually used to protect the cable and not the device it's connected to. If you use 3Amp cable you better have a 3A fuse max, if you have 5A cable use a 5A fuse max etc.

if your 500W power supply decides it's time to blow then it doesn't matter what size of fuse you use, it'll still be toast and potentially anything connected to it could be toast also.
