Since I had a very bad experience killing my NF4 SLI-D in a case, probably due to short circuit through the case, I need to check this first....
1. Does the backplate conduct electricity? If it touches the case
2. Does it matter the backplate touches the case
3. How to check whether the board is short-circuited
4. Should I continue to use the very same case that fried my NF4 SLI-D? (Although it might not be the case's fault)
I'm installing A8N-SLI Premium btw.

1. I wouldn't have thought that DFI would have put a conducting backplate on...
I have an ultra-d and with my cpu water cooling block its a pretty tight fit with the backplate. Its the stock backplate and it is on very tight as the swiftech blocks use strong screws and I have experienced no problems at all with it.
2. I would doubt that it if the backplate touched the case it would matter. (provided it doesn't conduct as it would be silly if it would)
3. Can't help i'm afraid, if somethings shorts it is likely to be pretty obvious, try running the whole setup completely out of the case and then see if it makes a diffrence.

3) If you've got a proper short, it's most likely caused by something like a screw dropped down the back of the motherboard in construction. As long as the card isn't fouled by anything it should be ok.
4) I seriously doubt the case is at fault.
The system is up and running now
I added some transparent tape on the mounting holes, and used the A8N-SLI Premium's original backplate, instead of the one came with my Slient tower.
The cause of my NF4 SLI-D's dead is probably I cracked the NF4 bridge or short circuited it.

Yes they do conduct. I had a bit of a strange problem with a machine shortin out due to the back plate,
