Kingmax is just kingstons top end stuff no?
my 2p...
If you're planning to overclock then I believe you need ram that can cope with the faster settings/timings, but as long as yuor ram is in line with the rest of your system you'll do fine. I've no idea what sort of timings you actually need though :) In all other cases (benchmarks excepted) more is better. As a compromis what about looking for a 1Gb stick of fast OCZ ram or something with a view to adding another when you can afford it later? I'd ask an avid overclocker what you might get away with...
Personally I have two 512mb sticks running at pc2100 speeds to match my cpu (xp2400+ @stock 266fsb) even though one is pc2700 and the other is pc3200. Upside is they can run tight timings at 266MHz. In terms of noticeable performance I didn't notice anything between 400, 333, and 266MHz ram :) Your mileage may vary.
Some games (cough *BF2* cough) like systems with lots of ram, and looking at the spec of your rig I'd say you want 2Gb pretty decent ram.
Kingmax have been around for years. Downside to no "heatspreaders" is not heat, but dust. Dust settling on top of the memory chips can cause static electricity which will fry your memory.
heat spreaders aren't that expensive, and can add some colour cordination to your system, a site i just happened to be browsing (drawing up my water cooling wish list)
http://www.componentsuk.co.uk/catalo...x.php?cPath=62
had some.
LMAO, i was about to start a thread with the same question (been away)
I was going to get the Geil vaule stuff but then i looked at pc memory upgrade and saw the the special offer, but noticed it was out of stock, dabs style.
Now you say that they are not going to get any more in?
Well, i looked a bit further down the page and noticed the G.skill 2Gb DDR PC3200 2-3-3-6 (ZX Series) G.Skill Dual Channel kit
for A £10er more. This has a cas of 2 which is obviously good. I looked on the website and it this here (baby blue, hmmmm) and it is in stock at the time of writing.
Is this good? Is G.skill good? Will it work well with my DFI Ultra-D? I will look for reviews now.
EDIT: This site describes it as value ram but says it reaches 280 ? http://www.mittoni.com.au/gskill-f13...er-p-2195.html
Thanks for the comments - more to think about!
I've taken a look at the Patriot that Mullet mentioned earlier in the thread (I think it's this stuff although Mullet can say for sure), and would like to get other (and Mullet's) views on it.
The spec indicates timings of 2-3-2-5, and although more expensive than i originally planned to spend, I'm wondering whether it's worth getting something other than value ram, and this would be a good candidate. I think I've got a half decent spec, so ideally I want to mirror that with semi decent ram.
It's interesting that Jemena mentioned BF2 as a memory hungry game, as I hope to start playing this when I'm up and running and started a thread here in the gaming forum asking if people should use 2gb for bf2. I think the overall consensus was 2gb is great! :)
nvening - I spotted the GSkill too, but don't know much about them either.
There's a £20 difference between the GSkill and Patriot, not sure why, but looking on the GSkill site (F1-3200PHU2-2GBZX) the spec says they have a latency of 2-3-2-5, same as Patriot, although pc-mem-upgrade indicates 2-3-3-6 as you so rightly said. Maybe someone can enlighten us in the difference between these two kits?
I don't know the difference, but I did see quite a thorough review that tested all the different types of g.skill memory. The ZX stuff really was only 2-3-3-6 I think and would only overclock to 214 ish. It's really the value stuff, but 2-3-3-6 isn't too bad.
makes more sense. The patriot is £20 more. Money that could be well spent when i got to tottemham court road tommorrow lmao
If the OCZ is outa stock then i think i will stick with the geil.
they have take the OCZ of the site. Is geil the best choice?
I would probably go for the Geil - I've heard it's quite popular. Don't know how it oc's though, if that's your thing.
I have found these: OCZ 2GB (1GB x 2) DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Kit Enhanced Latency Platinum, on a us website. They ship internationally, and i've checked the price- inc shipping: $330.11 or £186.78. Worth it? What do people think?
http://www.x-tremepc.biz/ has good prices for OCZ parts. Some feedback here
u cant buy anything yet lol, as for USA, import will be a lot
Geil is popular. I think it overclocks ok, just not particularly tight timings. I think their samples vary in quality a bit too (they pick the best stuff for their upper models) so some might clock better than others. Good value and cool looking though.Quote:

you can buy stuff but it's more an offline business at the moment. Drop them an email ;)Quote:
