Coding for AMD Athlon (Venice)

Just stumbled across something and its kinda giving me a hard time..

Well.. it started off with a new processor purchase.. well.. a 3200+ Venice OEM to be exact..

then its all great until I checked out the code for the processor..

I was under the impression that a venice chip should carry a BP behind its code such as

ADA3000DAA4BP LBBLE 0518EPBW..

but my 3200+ Venice instead has something like,

ADA3200DAA4BW LBBWE 0540APEW

What gives?

a tiny bit on the codes here, scroll down a bit, they list the BP as being the Venice but dont have a BW....

AP - Clawhammer, rev. C0 (avoid this!)
AR - Clawhammer, rev. CG
AX - Newcastle, rev. CG (ALL Newcastles are rev CG)
AW - Newcastle 939
BI - Winchester
BP - Venice
BN - San Diego
BV - Dual core 512KB cache
CD - Dual core 1MB cache
BOX - The CPU is a boxed version, this means you get the heatsink as well.

Do I need to look on the chip for the code? Mine was OEM as well, from Microdirect...

So far for myself, CPU Z (version 1.30 now) tells me the core name of my previous computer's CPU. as well as a few other stats.

Best of all, it's freeware..

Perhaps yopu have a new stepping? - E5 perhaps??? Have you tried running cpu identifiers such as cpu-z?

Smudger - it's on the top if the chip i.e. heatspreader for athlon64.

That CPU-Z thing tells me it's a Venice core, the thing that worries me is it says the voltage is 1.424v. Aren't these things supposed to run at 1.5v?

Gotcha, Iranu. My chip's got a heatsink and fan stuck on top of it, so I'll just take it as read that it's a Venice...

It's a list of codes for all AMD 64 3200+ chips, and the BW one is there...

Just looked at my 3200+ venice sitting it's box whilst I wait for my mobo back from rma. It's a BW too.

found out... apparently BW denotes Venice cores with E6 stepping.. boy I'm going to miss my 3500+ E3 Venice.. it died a good chip.. thanks to me for clearing my CMOS with the 5v standby on..

I do have my own thoughts.. but I've heard plenty of forums compaining how terrible E6 chips are at overclocking. Any thoughts?

If it is, there goes 2.7Ghz at 1.55V...

0540 is a very recent chip, probbaly the new E6 stepping venices everytone has been mentioning.

Recent venices have not OCed as well as the earlyer ones.

I wont have much time to try and tweak settings but when I get my board back I'll let you guys know what I get up to. I'll be trying to keep voltages at stock though as I like my computer to be very quiet.

On the other hand it'll be paired with an x800xt pretty much at stock so if I can get 2.5-6 I'll be happy.

My housemate has a 3200 bought at a similar time which did 2.6ghz without too much effort and I don't think he upped the vcore. Don't know what stepping he has though.
